Ideal Mexico and Alex Neilson’s freeform Poetry Club party returns for a late-night April special.
Premier ambassadors of Steel City ‘Aggro-Beat’, Blood Sport take a tool kit of drums, electronics, electric chordophone, baritone guitar and voice to deconstruct the sounds and energy of the club. As part of party agitators ‘Hybrid Vigour’ the trio have delighted in transgressing boundaries of genre, ‘dance’ and geography, and for this visit bring HV resident and Sheffield Live radio star DJ Clelia Ciardulli along for the ride. Their latest LP, Axe Laid To The Root (out on Blast First Petite), comes as a joyous statement of intent and polyrythm, leading The Quietus to proclaim “If groups like This Heat created the template for template-destroying music some 40 years ago, then Blood Sport are their contemporary spawn, continuing such annihilation with gleeful abandon and head-spinning flair – creating their own sound, and space, to operate within.”
Support comes from Glasgow’s own post-Industrial noise and performance trio, The Modern Institute, this time with vocalist James performing a live hologram set from Switzerland , complete with Green Screen and naked flames. Ideal Mexico DJs will fill any gaps with a dancefloor selection of post-punk, jazz, weirdo RnB and dancehall B sides.
Bare feet and flailing limbs encouraged.
